There are many museums in and near Rhode Island that can be experienced with a short ride and some good directions.  Many cultural attractions are close enough together that a walking tour will allow you to take in many attractions. This is particularly true in Providence and Newport.

The National Register of Historic Places includes those properties deemed historically significant in Rhode Island. The listings are indexed by county:  Bristol,  Kent,  Newport, Providence and Washington.  The National Society of Colonial Dames helps to manage and preserve historical sites in Rhode Island.
