The City of Warwick was one of the original settlements of the Colony. Warwick was first settled in 1642. It
was named for the Earl of Warwick, who signed the Patent of Providence Plantations, March 14, 1643. The first
action of the inhabitants of the town was August 8, 1647. The Native American name for the area now known
as Warwick was Shawomet.
