Town of Tiveton
History:
Once part of Plymouth Colony, the Town of Tiverton was one of five towns received from Massachusetts in 1746. The Native American name for Tiverton was Pocasset. Tiveton was annexed
to Newport County on February 17, 1746.
Tiverton was the mustering point for the
Battle of Rhode Island and played a key role in the Revolutionary War.
