The Town of North Providence was taken from Providence in 1765. A small portion reunited to Providence June 29, 1767, and March 28, 1873. The town was divided March
27, 1874 and a portion was annexed to the City of Providence and a portion to the Town of Pawtucket. The act went into effect May 1. 1874.
